Mandarinenfilm

is an independent film production company based in Heidelberg. We produce high-quality creative documentaries for cinema, television, exhibitions and the Internet. Special focuses of our work are sensitive portraits, artistic and social topics in South Korea and Japan as well as documentary films for children and young people. The use of animated sequences makes our documentaries distinctive. In addition to the quality of the results, a good working atmosphere and appreciative interaction with our partners and employees are especially important to us.

Susanne Quester

Born in Starnberg, Germany. After training as a cellist, she first studied Japanese studies and cultural studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin, then documentary film directing at the Munich University for Television and Film (HFF) and the Korean National University of Arts in Seoul, South Korea. Since 2006, she has been working as a freelance writer and director as well as a producer for documentaries and radio features.

Mieko Azuma

Born in Kyoto, Japan. After studying art with a focus on traditional Japanese casting at the Kanazawa Art Academy, Japan, she studied documentary film at the University for Television and Film Munich. Since 2012 she is a freelance filmmaker, author and cinematographer.
